Response: That vote will fail in the Senate and will not be taken up in the House.
Result: Sellout Caucus got nothing.
Second Promise: “The government-opening agreement guarantees that federal employees laid off during the shutdown are re-hired and gives federal employees backpay.”
Response: The layoffs are illegal and are being challenged successfully in court. Moreover, federal law guarantees furloughed employees back pay. The promises are an illusion as they merely conform to existing federal law.
Result: Sellout Caucus got nothing.
Third Promise: The continuing resolution will attach three appropriations bills—USDA, Veterans Affairs, and congressional operations.
Response: The three bills are part of a package of twelve bills that the Senate is required to pass to enact the 2026 budget. MAGA/Republicans could have advanced and passed those three bills at any time during the shutdown, but MAGA/Republicans stopped all legislative work to pressure Democrats to cave. It worked.
Result: The Sellout Caucus got nothing.
If you need to take a few days off. Then would suggest calling your Senators after you rest. Protest outside of their offices if you live in these 8 Senator’s states. Make them understand that this was not “business.” It was personal. We will not forget. But for now, we have more important, more urgent challenges. We will get beyond this. We must. Just in our local area, food drives were in full swing. Our PA Governor had stepped up to fund SNAP recipients. Things happening at a local and community level that dearly warmed and encouraged my Libertarian heart. Of course I'm VERY concerned that federal workers aren't paid, especially, but not limited to Air Traffic Controllers. So, I HAD a fleeting thought that perhaps I needed to temper my abject horror at the administrative house of horror and think about the suffering masses... But, then, I realized, opening up the government, caving on health care (who ACTUALLY BELIEVES the "promise" of talks and a vote???) won't FIX ANYTHING/ULTIMATELY HELP ANYONE, because, well, Donald Trump is our President (I couldn't bring myself to put that in all caps for emphasis. It's horrific to even have to acknowledge.)
My husband said (to get me to come down off of the ceiling and finish the laundry) that "[its] always been this way, you're just paying attention, now".
